The Liebster Award

Hey Guys,
Recently I was nominated by the lovely Rachel from 'Where She Goes' for the Liebster Award.

This award is such a great idea as it helps others discover new blogs & it gives other blogs credit for their hard work.

Here are the rules:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you & link their blog.
2. Answer the questions provided
3. Nominate other blogs for this award
4. Create 11 new questions for the nominees to answer
5. Let the nominees know

The Questions:
1. If everything was free for a day which five shops would you visit?
I wish! Topshop,Brown Thomas, River Island ..I can’t think. Probably Boots because I’d just love all of the skin care products. Maybe Tesco because I’d could have so much free food!

2. If dying your hair had no effect, what colour would you go?
This is so tough, probably a dirty blonde colour. I always love this colour on anyone. (Also apparently they have more fun)

3. Summer or winter?
As much as I love my scarf’s, hot chocolates & berry lips in Winter. I’m going to have to go with summer. Summer is just a much happier & freer month.

4. Favourite album of 2014?
I did mention this in my 2014 favourites, & I said Midnight Memories by One Direction.
I know that might seem weird as that album came out in 2013, but I listened to that album so much during exams & it really helped keep me happy during crappy exams. I also heard that album live in concert last May with my best friend & it was one of the best nights of my life.

5. Who is your biggest role model?
I’ve been sitting here trying to think & I have come to the conclusion that I don’t have one specific role model. . They are many people who I look up to for different reasons, my dad, my friends, Emma Watson, Louise Pentland, Johnny Cash. There are so many different things I want to be good at in my life. But there are so many people who have really great qualities that I admire & want to be like.

6. What is your secret dancing song?
Dancing Queen by Abba. (I do love me some Abba)

7. Strawberry or chocolate milkshake?
Strawberry, I’m not the biggest fan of sweet things & the thought of chocolate at the moment makes me feel a bit sick.

8. If you could have a telephone call with anyone throughout history, who would you call?
Jesus. I think we could have an interesting conversation.

9. What is your favourite chocolate brand?
When I am in the mood for chocolate I do love some good’ol Cadburys.

10. What is the name of your favourite book series?
The Luke & Eve series by Sophie McKenzie, I’ve read that series more than twice. (I’m a little embarrassed by that fact actually)

11. What would the title of the movie of your life be?
‘Making a Difference..Hopefully’

My Questions for the nominated blogs.

1.     What is something you are passionate about? (except blogging)
2.     What has been the best moment of 2015 so far?
3.     If you could change something in the world what would it be?
4.     What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
5.     What is your favourite thing about blogging?
6.    Favourite blog?
7.     Hardest thing you have ever done?
8.     Your current favourite beauty product?
9.     Something that make you really happy?
10. If you had to pick one word to describe your blog what would it be?

Here are my nominations

2015 Goals

Hey guys,
I know a lot of you don't believe in New Years resolutions.
But don't worry this isn't one of them. This is post is going to be about goals. Around the beginning of Spring I set goals for myself for the year.
I feel like Spring brings new life, fresh starts
& better weather.
So here are my 2015 goals!

*****

1) Read more books
17 to be specific, I think last year I read maybe 5 books at most. ( excluding textbooks, I read a hell of a lot of those). I am currently reading The Rosie project by Graeme C. Simsion.
Let me know if you have any recommendations!

2)  Push myself  & face fears
This was my goal last year as well. I pushed myself to do things I found intimidating & scary .Doing this made me really proud and accomplished. This year I'm also going to push myself to do my best in everything I do.

****

3) Run 5 k
This one scares me to be honest, now I have said it it means I have to do it.
This year I am going to start jogging & become consistent with it. I have the gear now all I need to do is put my ass in gear too. I am thinking about doing a whole blog post about this ( if I eventually do start jogging) let me know if you would be interested in reading that.

4)  Blog more
( you probably saw this one coming)
Last year I had a lot of exams & my sister was getting married too, unfortunately this resulted in a an abandoned blog. At the second half of the year I got my mojo back & have had huge motivation to blog. For 2015 I want to blog my heart out & create posts I really love. This is going to be my creative outlet.

****

5) Learn how to play the guitar
Last year I learned how to play the ukulele by myself & I really enjoyed it, this is something I want to carry into 2015 with me. But the guitar is the next instrument on the list. Mam & Dad even got me a beautiful guitar for Christmas so now I have no excuses.

Thank so much for reading this post, it means a lot.
Leave me a comment telling me your goals for 2015, I'd love to hear them!

Love always,

Mental Illness: 'She's such a schizo', 'I'm a little OCD'

Hey Guys
I have wanted to do this post for ages.
Today I am going to be talking about something that means a lot to me. Mental Illness's.
For me this has been the hardest post to write.
I really hope it helps!

Have you ever heard someone say the phrases
'I'm so depressed' 'Shes's such a schizo' 'I'm a little OCD' 'He's so moody he must be bipolar'.

It makes me so angry to hear these things.
Using these words incorrectly minimizes the seriousness of the illness.
A lot of people are not familiar about different types of mental illnesses.
So today I am going to give you a bit more information.

Bipolar- a mental condition marked by periods of elation and depression
(not to be confused with multiple personality disorder)

Schizophrenia- a long-term mental disorder involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to false perception & inappropriate actions.
People affected may face withdrawal from reality and delusion,

Depression- Feelings of severe sadness and dejection. It is said that 300,000 people in Ireland suffer from depression.

Generalized anxiety disorder- (GAD) is a common, chronic disorder characterized by long-lasting anxiety.

OCD- is a type of  anxiety disorder. The person affected will deal with this anxiety by preforming compulsions or rituals. These rituals can be obsessive. This can get in the way of every day life it is not known how many Irish people are affected, but international research suggests that 2 - 3% of the population has it - that is one in every 33 - 50 people. These rituals may include excessive hand washing, repetitive light flicking, avoiding touching certain things.

Trichotillomania- is an impulse disorder characterized by the compulsive urge to pull out one's hair, leading to noticeable hair loss and balding, and distress.

Dermotilamania- is an impulse control disorder were one has the urge to pick at their own skin, often to the extent that damage is caused.

Psychopathy- a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behaviour.

Sociopathy- a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour.

Dissociative disorder- are conditions that involve disruptions or breakdowns of memory, awareness, identity, or perception.

These terms should not be thrown around in conversation, only if the person ACTUALLY  has that illness.
Remember don't identify people by there mental disorder ' She's depressed' 'She's OCD'
instead say 'She has depression' 'She has OCD'.

If you yourself are going through a hard time don't be afraid to talk to someone.
If you don't feel you can talk to anyone you can email me at nixiepixieblog@gmail.com

Obviously I haven't included all mental illness's but I may do another post like this.
I hope you have taken something from this.

Leave a comment below if you have anything else to add to the conversation :)

Love always,

My 2014 Favourites

Hey Guys,
Its that time of year again, the time when I tell you my favourites of 2014.
I know this post is a bit late but I really wanted to be 100% happy with it.
I also have been sick the last few days I think I'm getting tonsillitis again
I hope you enjoy!

Starting with

Skincare

Facial wash: Neutrogen Pink Grapefruit face wash
This always wakes me up in the morning with its strong scent of grapefruit.
I really like it as its very gentle on my skin.

Moisturiser: Silcock Base ( I have it in a small travel bottle here)
This is the only moisturiser I have tried that actually helped my very dry skin. I have heard of people using this as a cleanser & even a face mask which I must try.

Face:

Face Primer: M.A.C.'s Prep & Prime
This primer makes my skin really soft & helps keep my make-up on for ages.
Defiantly would love a full size please.

Foundation: No.7 instance radiance
I have been using this foundation for a year & a half now.
I love how it has a radiant finish with medium coverage.

BB Cream: The Body Shop's BB cream
I love using this BB cream it looks & smells really nice.

Concealer: Collections Lasting Perfection Concealer in No.3
I have been using this concealer for at least 2 years. Excellent coverage & lasts hours on my skin.

Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte powder in 003 'Sandstorm
I have dry skin so I never look too shiny but this powder keeps my skin matte after applying foundation.

Face brush: Real Techniques Buffing Brush
I only started using this brush lately for foundation. I was so shocked at how much foundation I was wasting before. It buffs in foundation really well too.

Lips:

Lipstick: Revlon Black Cherry
I left this space blank for so long, Its been really hard to choose a favourite lipstick as I really love all of mine & this year was the year I bought 80% of my lipsticks. If you have been reading my blog for a while you'll know how much I love this berry coloured lipstick by Revlon.
It has to be my favourite.

Lip balm: Babylips in 'Mint Fresh'
This was my holy grail over the past winter months.
It kept my lips soft & non chapped.

Eyes:

Liquid eyeliner: L'oreal Super Liner in 'Intense Black'
I recently purchased a new one of these because my old one had dried out after a year of using it. It stays in place all night & I find it really easy to use ( as I'm not very good at applying liquid eyeliner).
I have recommended it to my sister & friends & now they own it too.

Mascara: Rimmel Scandaleyes mascara in 'Intense Black'
I got this mascara ages ago & it is still is as good as the day I first got it
.However, it can be a little clumpy if u don't wipe some excess product off the wand.

Eyeshadow Brush: M.A.C 217 Blending Brush
I use this brush every time I apply eyeshadow,
It blends colours really well.
Honorable Mention
M.A.C 239 Shader Brush

Eyesshadow: M.A.C.'s  Sable
I have been wearing this shade a lot towards the end of the year. I forgot how much I had loved it. Its a very pretty shimmery brown shade.
I like to wear it all over the lid with a matte brown shade in the crease.

Eyeshadow Palette: M.U.A's palette in 'Undress Me'
This is my current favourite palette, the colours are a beautiful mix of matte, shimmery & glittery.
Very pigmented, I bought this for £4 in Superdrug, great value.

Hair:

Dry Shampoo: Batiste Blush
I have tried a fair few dry shampoos & I find this works best in my hair. Let me know what scent you prefer. I think I prefer the tropical scent.

Shampoo: Mane & Tail Herbal Essentials
I used this on the lead up to my sisters wedding, in the hopes my hair would grow a bit longer. I did see results, but I recommend using a moisturising conditioner as well as I felt this shampoo dried the ends of my hair a little.

Conditioner: Aussie Miracle Shine Conditioner
I don't have a picture to show you because I have just ran out of this stuff. Its a bit pricey but well work it. It reduced the dryness of the ends of my hair, & made my hair soft overall.

Heat Protectant: Charles Worthington
This smells really great & does its job as far as I can see. Its almost gone thought so I will have to pick up a new one. (don't smell it, it will burn you nose, you have been warned!)

Styling Product: Tony & Guys Sea Salt Spray
My hair is naturally wavy & can be a bit bushy & frizzy. This salt spray really helps with that, I also use this after I have curled my hair it helps really define the curls.

Utensil: Babyliss Curling Wand
I used this curler almost every time I go out with friends I love how the barrel is wide then goes narrow. This results in beautiful natural curls.

Body:

Shower Gel: Soap & Glory Clean On Me
This smells devine & luxurious, its almost gone through. I'm currently using Soap & Glory's Sugar Crush body wash & I am loving that too.

Perfume: Ted Baker Butterfly Wings Body spray
I discovered this scent a few months ago & it has been all I have been wearing (scent wise of course). Boots online told me it has elegant bergamot and red fruit, highlighted with tuberose and patchouli. So there ya go, if your into your bergamot then give this a smell. ( I have no idea what bergamot is ).

Body Butter: Soap & Glory Daily Smooth
I completely forgot I had this, I used this all through Summer I really like how thick it is.
It kept my skin really soft through Summer.

Body Scrub: Soap & Glory Flake Away
Smells great & makes my skin really soft.
(Don't leave it in your family shower, they will use it all, I promise).

Other:

Book: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
Honourable Mention
The Perks Of Being a Wallflower By Stephen Chbosky

These books are both about fictional teenage characters.
You probably have heard of them already, so all I have to say it read them.
(or just watch the movies, either way ).

Song: Happily by One Direction
Honourable Mention
Happy by Marina & the Diamonds

Albums: Midnight Memories & FOUR by One Direction

Honorable mention:
X by Ed Sheeran & 5 Seconds of Summer by 5 Seconds of Summer

Snack: Super Chicken Noodles
I always get hungry in the evenings & these are so quick to cook.
(bit random really..)

Shoes: Dr. Martins
I have been saving up for months to buy my black Dr. Martins & have been wearing them to death since.

T.V. Show: Orange is The New Black
I'm not really one to follow T.V shows but I did enjoy watching the first season of  OITNB
